핑크슬립이 없는 자동차 거래
차량 매도인이 대출금을 다 갚지 않아서 핑크슬립을 가지고 있지 않은 경우인데, 차량 매수자로서는 무엇을 믿고 차량 매도인에게 대금을 지급할 수 있는지요?
매도인은 미국에서는 이런 경우가 자주 있다고 하면서 대출회사에 전화를 걸어서 확인시켜 주겠다고 하는데, 전화 통화만 믿고 차량대금을 지급하기가 꺼림칙한데요.
나중에 대출회사에서 바로 매수인에게 핑크슬립을 보내온다는데 그것도 확실하지가 않고...
이런 경우가 흔한 경우인지? 이럴 때는 어떻게 하면 되는지?

I just went through this a few months ago, as a matter of fact.
It's easy.
When you find a buyer for your car, specify that you want payment
in the form of either cash or a cashier's check. Go with the buyer
to the lending institution that holds the lien on the car. Tell
the cashier that you're using the funds to pay off your car loan,
and ask that the receipt be stamped "secured funds."
Next, walk the receipt over to the loan department. Hand it to the
loan representative and ask for the pink slip. The "secured funds"
stamp on your payment receipt tells the loan rep that the loan
institution isn't waiting for a personal check to clear. Sign the
pink slip in the space that says you're relinquishing ownership of
the vehicle, and hand it to the buyer.
Then you have to go to the DMV (or CSAA, if you're a member) and
fill out a "transfer of title" form. You're done; go have a beer.
