Happy Birthday A.A. Milne, creator of Winnie-the-Pooh!
“Some people talk to animals. Not many listen though. That’s the problem.” –Winnie-the-Pooh
When A.A. Milne’s son Christopher was very young, he had a stuffed bear named Winnie. Milne, the British writer born on this day in 1882, renamed the bear Winnie-the-Pooh, and created a vibrant world for this silly old bear and his friends called the Hundred Acre Wood.
Milne’s stories and poems about Winnie-the-Pooh have sold millions of copies and are still beloved by children and their parents more than 90 years later.
In recognition of Milne’s birthday, here are suggestions for CTY summer, online, and family programs that are great for kids in grades 2-12 who like to read engaging books, write memorable stories and poems, and maybe learn about animals and other creatures, too.
