Newly Re-Branded "Pacific Arts Movement" Expands Asian American Representation With the 13th Annual San Diego Asian Film Festival and 2nd Annual Amp Music Festival!
The PACIFIC ARTS MOVEMENT (formerly the San Diego Asian Film Foundation) is one of the largest media arts organization in North America promoting Asian American and Asian International Cinema. The original Film Festival(SDAFF) began with a three-day event in August of 2000. Since then, they have premiered more than 1,000 feature length and short films from around the world, serving nearly 100,000 attendees.
This year, with a shift from a "Foundation" to a Pacific Arts "Movement," they have broadened their reach to include live musical performance with the all-day AMP MUSIC FESTIVAL, presented as the official closing event of SDAFF. The Film Festival runs November 1st through the 9th, while the Music Festival runs throughout the day on Saturday, November 10th, 2012.
This is the second year for the AMP MUSIC FESTIVAL, which made its debut in September of 2011 with a mission to "Amp"-lify the voice of Asian American artists in the music industry and pop culture world. Amp will also feature other pop cultural norms such as gourmet food trucks, A Video-"Gaming-Tent" presented by Gam3rCon San Diego, and other activity areas including EDM (Electronic Dance Music) Arena hosted by Intraphonics, autograph signings, outdoor film screenings, Sapporo beer jungle, and more! Ticketholders to Amp also receive an access card to the festival’s exclusive after-party downtown.
Amp's lineup features a mix of local and indie favorites such as the thrice San Diego Music Award nominated 321 Stereo, Misc. Ailments who placed in the top 5 of Skinnie Magazine’s Top 100 Bands, as well as American Idol Season 10 "Hollywood Week" finalist Julianne Manalo; Also featured are Youtube phenoms such as Hawaiian transplant and vocal looping artist Kawehi, Singer/Songwriter Sam Kang, and with over 72 thousand subscribers and 14 million views, violinist and multi instrumentalist extraordinaire Paul Dateh!
Performances from 15 artists will run between 11:00am till 8:30pm at Market Creek Plaza in the Jacobs Center for Cultural Innovation, at 404 Euclid Ave, San Diego, CA 92114.
