Job Title:  Part time Children’s Minister

Location:  San Diego, CA

Reports to:  Senior Pastor & Staff Parish Relationship Committee

Description:

San Diego Korean United Methodist Church (SDKUMC) is seeking qualified applicants to direct and manage the Children’s Ministry program for children from pre-school through 5^th grade.  SDKUMC is a multi-generational congregation with two complementary demographics – first is focused around the 1^st generation Korean American immigrant population of San Diego with adult services in Korean language and the 2^nd ministry is focused around a diverse mix of 2^ndand following generation Korean-Americans and other demographics where English is spoken.  These two ministries share a common children’s ministry program where all services and education are conducted in English.

·         Bring our children closer to God.

·         Instill Christ-like characteristics in our children.

·         Connect with parents to extend our Christian education at home.

·         Nurture our children to be culturally competent.

Competencies & Expectations of Children’s Minister:

•        Personal growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

•        Passion for children’s ministry and the ability to foster growth in faith for parents and children.

•        Ability to embrace the vision, values, and faith statement of SDKUMC and Abundant Life Community.

•        Familiarity with the United Methodist Church and its ordination process.

•        Bi-lingual (Korean, English) desired

•        Collegiality and strong interpersonal skills to maintain mutually supporting relationship with supervisors, coworkers, and volunteers.

Essential Duties:

•        Providing pastoral and theological leadership for children’s education.

·         Providing administrative leadership and planning initiatives for CM volunteers.

•        Developing and managing communication with congregation and parents.

•        Planning and executing major events (Vacation Bible School, PTA meeting, teachers’ training, etc.)
